An open letter to the U.S. Congress

HR569 is wrong. Birthright citizenship needs to stand

13 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I strongly oppose amending the Immigration and Nationality Act to change the classes of individuals born in the United States who are considered nationals and citizens at birth. All people born on U.S. soil should be granted birthright citizenship as it is a fundamental right enshrined in the 14th Amendment. Attempting to redefine citizenship based on factors like parentage or legal status would undermine this constitutional principle and create a discriminatory tiered system of citizenship. Birthright citizenship has been the standard for over 150 years and is a core part of our nation's values of equality and inclusion. We should uphold and protect this essential right, not try to dismantle it through legislation that would strip citizenship from broad groups of people born here. I urge you to respect the Constitution and American ideals by firmly opposing any effort to repeal or limit birthright citizenship.
