I am writing to urge you to support Representative Rashida Tlaib's Economic Dignity for All Agenda, specifically the Baby Bonus Act, the End Child Poverty Act, and the BOOST Act.
The Baby Bonus Act provides a one-time $2,000 inflation-adjusted payment to families with newborns. The United States remains the only developed country without guaranteed parental leave, and this payment helps offset pregnancy costs and supplement unpaid leave.
The End Child Poverty Act consolidates the existing Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit into a universal child allowance of $469 monthly per child under 19, equal to $5,630 annually in 2026. This eliminates phase-in structures that currently exclude the lowest-income families who need support most.
The BOOST Act delivers $250 monthly to working-age adults between 19 and 67, funded through a 2.5% tax on Adjusted Gross Income above $30,000 for single filers and $60,000 for joint filers.
According to microsimulation analysis by PolicyEngine, overall poverty measured by the Supplemental Poverty Measure would fall by 42%, while deep poverty would decline by 47%. Child poverty would drop by two-thirds, and deep child poverty would nearly disappear with an 83% reduction. A single parent with a newborn and no earnings would receive $11,330 annually under this agenda, enough to escape deep poverty.
The agenda would reduce the Gini index by 8.1%, lowering income inequality to levels not seen since the 1980s and 1990s. The Social Security Administration would administer these programs through newly established offices designed to eliminate administrative barriers.
I urge you to cosponsor and advocate for these three bills.
