An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support equal rights and protections for transgender individuals

Protecting the rights and dignity of all people, including transgender individuals, is crucial for an inclusive and just society. The proposed "Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act" seeks to prohibit transgender individuals from accessing restrooms and other single-sex facilities on federal property that correspond with their gender identity. This legislation would bar transgender women from utilizing female restrooms and force them into spaces aligning with the sex they were assigned at birth. Singling out and marginalizing this vulnerable group raises concerns about violating their privacy, dignity and exacerbating the disproportionate discrimination they already face. Ensuring equal access to public accommodations for all citizens, regardless of gender identity or expression, should be the priority while safeguarding privacy and safety through appropriate policies without resorting to broad discriminatory bans.
