I am writing as your constituent to affirm that the right to vote must be protected for all Americans—especially for women, whose access to the ballot was won through generations of struggle and sacrifice. The 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, was a monumental step toward making our democracy truly representative. But that right is not guaranteed forever; it depends on our continued commitment to defending it.
Women make up more than half of the U.S. population and contribute to every sector of society—our workforce, our military, our families, and our communities. Excluding women from the political process would not only be unjust, it would strip our democracy of the diverse perspectives and experiences that lead to better laws and more responsive government.
History shows that when women vote, policy outcomes improve for families, children, and communities as a whole. From advancing civil rights protections to improving healthcare access, women’s votes have shaped a stronger, fairer nation. Silencing half the country is not only immoral—it is anti-American.
Some naysayers have recently suggested, either seriously or for shock value, that women should not have the right to vote. These regressive, ahistorical notions should be ignored and rejected outright. They are distractions from the urgent work of strengthening democracy and ensuring equal rights for all citizens. Giving airtime or legitimacy to such ideas only undermines the progress our nation has fought so hard to achieve.
I urge you not only to oppose any suggestion, movement, or rhetoric that seeks to roll back women’s suffrage, but to speak out forcefully and publicly against it. Silence in the face of such dangerous ideas risks normalizing them. At this moment, leadership demands a clear, unwavering defense of women’s right to vote.
The vote is the foundation of a free society. Once we begin to erode that foundation for any group, we endanger the rights of all. Please use your platform to affirm unequivocally that women’s right to vote is non-negotiable and must be protected for generations to come.
