I urge you to veto SB 173, the harmful "Free The Smiles" Act. Masks should be optional when the time is right. New research from Harvard last week explains that for elementary schools, it is too soon. Anything that fixes policies against COVID-19 precautions will become a problem for North Carolina . The BA.2, Omicron variant 2, is growing now and is likely to cause both many more cases and deaths. Please do not take away local decision making authority needed to keep our schools, our children, our teachers, and school staffers safer in the middle of a crisis. Please veto SB 173 today.
