Simple Request: Stop The Wildfire Smoke We Are Breathing

I am writing to express my deep concern about the devastating wildfires burning across northwestern Ontario and northern Minnesota. The smoke from these fires has turned what feels like a distant disaster into a very real public health emergency for communities across the region. Minnesota has experienced dangerously poor air quality, with the Air Quality Index reaching the hazardous "maroon" category and, for a time, the Minneapolis–Saint Paul (Twin Cities) metropolitan area recording the worst air quality of any major city in the world. Families are being told to stay indoors, children and older adults are at greater risk, and people with asthma, heart disease, and other health conditions are struggling to breathe. At the same time, hundreds of active wildfires continue to burn across Canada, while several large fires in Minnesota's Superior National Forest remain difficult to contain. Communities have been forced to evacuate, firefighters are working under extraordinarily difficult conditions, and local resources are being stretched thin during an intense heat wave. As your constituent, I respectfully ask what concrete steps the federal government is taking to strengthen coordination with Canadian authorities and state agencies. What additional federal resources, personnel, and cross-border firefighting efforts are being deployed to help contain these fires and reduce the dangerous smoke affecting millions of people? This is more than an environmental issue—it is a public health crisis affecting the daily lives of families across our region and beyond. I would appreciate learning what immediate actions Congress and the Administration are taking to address both the current emergency and to better prepare for future wildfire seasons. Thank you for your time, your service, and your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response.
