Support EACH Act to Ensure Equal Access to Abortion Coverage

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to support the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (EACH) Act (H.R. 4611) recently reintroduced by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and Senator Tammy Duckworth. This crucial legislation aims to guarantee abortion coverage for all Americans, regardless of their health insurance source. Senator Patty Murray, another supporter of the bill said it very succinctly: “Women should be able to get the abortion care they need no matter where they live or how much money they have.” On the wake of continuous assault for women’s right to choose, and women’s health care in general by Republicans, the EACH Act is a necessary response. Since the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, we have seen an unprecedented assault on women's healthcare access of all kinds. This act would not only end the Hyde Amendment but also lift abortion coverage restrictions for those on Medicaid and other government-sponsored health plans. The importance of this legislation cannot be overstated. It addresses the fundamental inequity in our healthcare system, where the right to reproductive choice is often determined by economic status. Recent Republican efforts to restrict healthcare access, including attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and cut Medicaid, make this act even more critical. These actions disproportionately affect low-income individuals and communities of color, exacerbating existing health disparities. The EACH Act works alongside with important legislative efforts to protect reproductive rights, such as the Abortion Justice Act and the Women's Health Protection Act that I also support. I strongly urge you to co-sponsor and vote in favor of the EACH Act. Your support would demonstrate a commitment to protecting the health, rights, and dignity of all Americans, regardless of their economic circumstances. Thank you.
