Defend the First Amendment: Condemn Trump’s Unconstitutional Press Censorship

Democracy died a little today, and I need my representative to help save it.
I am a long-time constituent, voter, and taxpayer in your district. On March 14, 2026, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr — a Trump appointee and Project 2025 author — publicly threatened broadcasters to “correct course” on war coverage or lose their licenses. The First Amendment is unambiguous: “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” This is not a gray area. It is a direct attack on the Constitution you swore to defend.
Nixon tried this during Watergate. Putin and Xi do this to their press today. I do not believe you want to be on the right side of history alongside them.
The damage is already real. Nexstar pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live from 32 ABC stations. CBS refused to air a Stephen Colbert interview. When journalists self-censor, your constituents lose access to the truth — and they cannot hold you accountable without it.
I demand you take the following actions:
1. Publicly condemn Trump’s and Carr’s threats as unconstitutional.
2. Co-sponsor the PRESS Act to protect independent journalism.
3. Call for Congressional oversight hearings into the FCC’s political targeting of media.
4. Demand withdrawal of all politically motivated FCC investigations.
5. Demand a full public FOIA accounting of every FCC investigation opened since January 2025.
I am sharing this letter with my neighbors, community groups, and local media. You swore an oath to the Constitution — not to the President. Now is the time to prove you meant it. How you respond will determine how I vote
