Concern Over Press Access, Free Speech Restrictions, and Lack of Transparency

I am writing to express my deep concern over the Associated Press (AP) being denied access to the White House, as well as broader issues regarding government transparency and free speech. A free and independent press is essential to democracy, and restricting a major news organization’s ability to report on government affairs undermines the transparency and accountability that the American people deserve.
Furthermore, reports that journalists are being required to refer to the Gulf of America instead of the Gulf of Mexico only further demonstrate the government’s attempt to censor free speech. No administration should have the power to dictate language in a way that distorts facts or suppresses journalistic integrity.
This is yet another example of the Trump administration failing to uphold its promise of transparency. While it claimed to be the most transparent administration in history, its actions tell a different story. The decision to seal DOGE records until 2035 under the Presidential Records Act raises serious questions about what is being hidden from the public. Transparency is not just a campaign slogan, it is a fundamental principle of good governance.
The First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press and speech without government interference. Denying AP access, mandating politically motivated terminology, and withholding public records all set dangerous precedents that threaten these fundamental rights. Regardless of political affiliation, all journalists must have equal access to the White House, and all Americans must be free to use accurate language without fear of government-imposed restrictions.
I urge you to take immediate action to protect press freedom, end government censorship, and ensure true transparency. The American people deserve an open and accountable government. Please let me know what steps you will take to address this serious issue.
