I am writing to urge you to vote NO on SF 175. This bill mandates the use of scientifically disputed fetal development videos—such as those modeled after “Meet Baby Olivia”—in Iowa classrooms under the guise of health education. The content promoted in this bill is not grounded in credible medical science, but rather in political and ideological propaganda.
The video in question falsely depicts a fetus as “playing” and “exploring” in utero—claims that are not supported by medical science. Leading fetal development experts and respected medical institutions, such as the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins, do not support these representations. Yet the bill’s restrictions exclude such reputable sources from contributing materials, simply because they also provide or refer for reproductive care.
It is your duty as an elected official to prevent misinformation from being force-fed to children in our public schools. If there is no money to feed children lunch, then we certainly cannot afford to waste time and public resources feeding them politically motivated propaganda.
SF 175 is not education. It’s an attempt to mislead students by replacing facts with ideology. Please reject this effort to compromise the integrity of Iowa’s classrooms. Our children deserve an honest education rooted in science—not a political agenda.
