The proposed legislation to sell off over 120 million acres of public lands managed by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management is deeply alarming. These lands belong to all Americans and provide invaluable benefits for recreation, wildlife habitat, clean air and water, and preserving our natural heritage. Directing federal agencies to arbitrarily nominate and auction off millions of acres at breakneck speed, without public input or environmental review, sets a dangerous precedent for liquidating public lands whenever politicians need funds. While the legislation claims to address housing needs, it lacks safeguards ensuring lands are actually used for that purpose. Instead, it creates a system ripe for commercial exploitation, where pristine public lands could be sold to the highest bidder and rapidly developed or resold for other purposes after just 10 years. Public lands should benefit public interests, not accelerate a land grab for the privileged. I urge you to adamantly oppose any legislation enabling the wholesale disposal of America's public lands and national forests. These irreplaceable public resources must be preserved and protected for current and future generations, not auctioned off as a short-term money grab. Please uphold your responsibility as an elected official to be a steward of our public lands and natural heritage.
