Fully Restore Efforts to Counter Russian Sabotage and Hybrid Warfare Schemes

I’m writing to urge you in the strongest possible terms to demand answers about our own intelligence agencies suspension of coordinated efforts to counter Russian sabotage. Someone - presumably on the President’s direction — has given the order to mostly ‘stand down’ and cease our counter-intelligence efforts across multiple agencies. This cannot be allowed. The escalating threat posed by Moscow's hybrid warfare campaign must be stopped before their sabotage efforts cause mass-casualty events. We’ve already seen some of this in other countries. Russia has recruited criminal networks across Europe to conduct sabotage operations such as arson, attempted assassinations and planting explosives on aircraft. Putin’s influence operations take direct aim at Western and NATO support for Ukraine, and any other land grabs they want to make in Europe. With this grave risk, it is crucial to reinstate the intelligence working groups established under the previous administration to monitor and disrupt these malicious activities. There’s no other choice, and we must reject any cuts to staff and the years of expertise that works on these operations. We must restore enhanced intelligence sharing and joint contingency planning with our allies as well. The trust we’ve worked so hard to keep has kept us relatively safe since World War II. We must NOT allow Russia's shadow war to go unchecked: It jeopardizes our national security as well as critical infrastructure and democratic processes at home and abroad. Robust countermeasures are imperative to safeguard our interests and values against this mounting threat from an increasingly emboldened adversary. I urge you to call for hearings from our Intelligence Chiefs, such as they are, and ask them point-blank what they are going to do if a Russian bomb goes off in Times Square and kills thousands. I’m sure they’ll use soothing words and say that cannot happen, but it could: the World Trade Center did. Call for hearings. Restore these countermeasures, before something really bad happens.
