Trump’s Version of Reality Has Become A Constitutional Crisis

Look at what America experienced in one day. President Trump stood before 9/11 families and first responders and repeated a personal rescue story that has not been independently corroborated. At an event built around sacrifice, heroism, and national memory, an unsupported story from the President inevitably raises another question about whether Americans can trust what they are hearing from their own government. That matters. A president speaks for the United States during wars, emergencies, negotiations, and national tragedies. Credibility is not a luxury. On the same day, the war with Iran escalated again. American forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers after Iranian missile attacks on a U.S. warship. Iran then launched missiles toward a U.S. base in Jordan, while Iranian backed Houthis attacked Saudi cities and oil infrastructure. Trump has previously portrayed Iran’s military capabilities as largely destroyed. Yet six months into this conflict, Iran is still launching ballistic missiles, attacking American interests, and threatening regional shipping. America was also dealing with another trade confrontation with Canada while Trump publicly celebrated the electoral success of Germany’s far right AfD. This was one day. War. Missiles. Oil tankers destroyed. Trade conflict. Foreign political commentary. An unsupported 9/11 story from the President while honoring actual 9/11 heroes. Congress should ask a basic question: IS PRESIDENT TRUMP EXERCISING THE JUDGMENT, CREDIBILITY, AND COMPETENCE REQUIRED OF THE PRESIDENCY? And if Congress has doubts, why is it not using its oversight powers to demand answers? Americans should be able to trust that presidential statements are accurate, that military escalation has a clear objective, and that major decisions are being made with competent advice.
