An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Save the Maah Daah Trail

19 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

The Maah Daah Hey Trail in North Dakota’s Badlands is one of the most celebrated hiking and biking routes in America. 144 miles of singletrack winding through some of the most remote and stunning landscape in the country. The Trump administration is putting it on the chopping block. The BLM(Bureau of Land Management) just began the process of selling oil and gas leases on 23 parcels near the trail. Nine of them sit directly on top of it or right next to it. If drilling starts, major sections of the trail could be destroyed (forcing reroutes or permanent closure of portions). This isn’t an accident. Recreation was once given equal weight alongside energy extraction in public lands management. The Trump administration has quietly erased that. Drill, baby, drill even if it means bulldozing a trail that took decades to build and belongs to all of us. The Maah Daah Hey Trail name comes from the Mandan people. It means “an area that has been and will be around for a long time.” STOP this madness of destroying our country!!!
