An open letter to the U.S. Congress

West Point Grads Deserve Respect, Not Rhetoric from Trump

15 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

President Trump’s May 2025 West Point speech was a disgrace. Instead of honoring cadets, he wore a MAGA hat, bragged about “rebuilding” the military, and attacked diversity, transgender troops, and drag shows (The New York Times, May 2025). It was a campaign rally, not a unifying address to our future military leaders. The military is sworn to defend all Americans, no matter their race, religion, gender, or background. It must remain apolitical and professional. Trump turned a sacred institution into a political tool, disrespecting the service and sacrifice of those who wear the uniform. This cannot stand. Congress must condemn this abuse and take action to protect military ceremonies from political exploitation. Trump’s rhetoric is dangerous, divisive, and dishonors the values our armed forces are built on.
