Demanding Accountability for Racist Presidential Rhetoric

I am writing as a constituent to express my deep disgust and alarm at President Donald Trump’s recent racist post targeting former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on Truth Social. Public condemnation alone is not enough. While I appreciate that Senator Jerry Moran spoke out, words without action do not meet the seriousness of this moment. This kind of rhetoric is not harmless. It is dangerous, divisive, and deliberately dehumanizing—and it comes from a man who is once again seeking the highest office in the country. The President of the United States, past or present, is supposed to help bring the American people together. Instead, Donald Trump continues to traffic in racism, conspiracy, and incitement, targeting Black Americans and political opponents in ways that put real people at risk. We have already seen where this kind of language leads: increased harassment, threats, and violence. Silence—or tepid responses—normalize this behavior. I am asking you not just to condemn these statements, but to take action. That includes: Publicly calling out racist rhetoric without equivocation Supporting formal accountability measures where appropriate Refusing to normalize or excuse this behavior as “politics as usual” Racism from anyone is unacceptable. Racism from someone with a massive platform and a history of inciting violence is a threat to public safety and to democracy itself. Leadership means drawing clear lines. It means standing up not only when it is easy, but when it is necessary. Kansans—and all Americans—deserve representatives who will defend our shared humanity and refuse to tolerate rhetoric that endangers our neighbors. I urge you to do more than speak. I urge you to act.
