🪖 Don't Ask, Don't Tell 2.0: The Trans Military Ban Violates Equality & Readiness
203 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!
We, the undersigned, call for the immediate repeal of the transgender military ban and demand the full restoration of the rights of transgender Americans to serve openly in the United States Armed Forces.
Why This Matters:
1. Unit Cohesion & Readiness: Transphobia erodes trust among service members, negatively impacting unit cohesion and operational effectiveness. Discrimination has no place in a military that thrives on unity, discipline, and mutual respect.
2. Impact on All Service Members: Policies that target transgender individuals create a hostile work environment, encourage misinformation about the human body, and reinforce harmful stereotypes about gender and capability. This harms transgender, intersex, cisgender, and female service members alike.
3. Historical Parallels: The transgender military ban echoes the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy (1994–2011), which harmed LGBTQ+ service members and was ultimately repealed because it weakened, rather than strengthened, our military.
The Reality:
- Transgender service members have served honorably throughout history, from the Civil War to today. Notable figures such as Pvt. Albert D. J. Cashier prove that gender identity has no bearing on a soldier's ability to serve with courage and distinction.
- Medical & Psychological Readiness: Gender dysphoria is not an automatic disqualifier for service. Many transgender individuals meet or exceed all physical and mental health standards required by the military.
- International Precedents: Allied nations, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Israel, allow transgender individuals to serve openly with no adverse effects on military readiness.
Our Demands:
1. End the Transgender Military Ban immediately and restore the ability of transgender Americans to serve openly.
2. Ensure Equal Treatment by implementing non-discrimination policies across all branches of the military.
3. Provide Access to Gender-Affirming Healthcare as part of comprehensive medical care for all service members.
4. Uphold Military Meritocracy by ensuring that promotions and assignments are based on ability, not gender identity.
The United States military has always been strongest when it values the diversity, dedication, and courage of its service members. We urge you to take action now to protect the rights of all who volunteer to defend our nation.
Sign this petition to stand with our transgender troops and demand an end to discriminatory policies!
