I urge you to oppose the judicial nomination of Emil Bove III based on the disturbing allegations of his willingness to violate court orders and disregard the rule of law. According to a whistleblower complaint by a recently fired Justice Department lawyer, Erez Reuveni, Bove explicitly stated his intent to ignore court orders in order to aggressively deport immigrants, even using an expletive to emphasize his point. The complaint portrays a deeply troubling picture of top officials at the department showing a readiness to stonewall judges or provide misleading information to courts in order to circumvent judicial oversight. Such blatant disregard for the authority of the judicial branch and the system of checks and balances is unacceptable, especially for someone being considered for a powerful position on the federal appeals court. A judge must have unimpeachable respect for the rule of law and court rulings, not a willingness to defy them based on political motivations. Reuveni's first-hand account, along with his own firing after raising concerns about wrongful deportations, casts grave doubt on Bove's fitness to serve as an impartial arbiter of the law.
