Oppose Militarized ICE Operations That Endanger Public Safety

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action against the militarized immigration enforcement operations that have turned our communities into zones of fear and violence. The deployment of over 2,000 armed federal officers to the Twin Cities last week resulted in the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good within just one day of operations beginning. This is unacceptable. The Trump administration has characterized this as the biggest ever immigration enforcement operation in the Twin Cities, but the tactics being employed are creating chaos rather than safety. ICE activity has been reported all over Minneapolis, with 911 callers alerting authorities to arrests and abandoned vehicles left in park with dogs inside after drivers were apprehended. Heavily armed officers, including Border Patrol agents, are confronting residents on city streets. As Minneapolis mother Meghan Moore stated, "We're all living in fear right now. ICE is creating an environment where nobody feels safe and that's unacceptable." The situation escalated further when three Minnesota congresswomen, Ilhan Omar, Kelly Morrison, and Angie Craig, were blocked from touring the ICE facility in the Minneapolis federal building on Saturday, despite a federal judge previously blocking policies that limit congressional visits to immigration facilities. ICE agents are now obstructing members of Congress from fulfilling their oversight duties and violating federal law. These militarized operations are designed to weaponize fear against American cities. Officers were abruptly pulled from operations in Louisiana to participate in this show of force. This is not about public safety or legitimate law enforcement. It is about intimidation. I urge you to demand an immediate investigation into Renee Good's death, support legislation to restrict militarized immigration enforcement in our communities, and defend congressional oversight authority. Our communities deserve safety, not occupation.
