I’m writing to express my deep concern about the proposed bill S. 686, which would limit freedom of speech under the guise of national security. I recognize the need to support our nation from external and internal threats. Still, I fear this bill may be a thinly veiled attempt to manipulate and control the American populace.
This bill would give the government unprecedented power to monitor and censor online communication platforms and social media companies. While the promoters of the bill claim to want to promote national security and stop the spread of disinformation, the reality is that it could be used to limit our freedom of expression and silence dissenting voices. Furthermore, this bill is part of our society’s broader trend of fear-mongering and manipulation.
By trying to focus our attention on national security and the threat of disinformation, the government is trying to distract the American people from the real issues affecting our lives, such as income inequality, healthcare, and climate change. I want to make it clear that I strongly oppose this bill and will be supporting any opposition against you in the primaries if you vote in support of it. As representative of your constituents, you must protect our constitutional rights and freedoms and listen to our concerns and priorities.
We expect our elected officials to uphold the values of democracy and to work towards building a better future for all Americans.
In light of these concerns, I urge you to oppose this bill and work toward our constitutional rights and freedoms. We must not allow the government to use our national security as an excuse to limit our freedom of speech or manipulate our fears and emotions. Instead, we must create a society that values free and open discourse where all voices are heard and respected. This is the only way we can truly address the pressing issues affecting our lives and build a better future for ourselves and our children.
Thank you for your attention on this matter.
