Locate and Return Missing Detainees from 'Alligator Alcatraz' Immediately

The alarming disappearance of hundreds of detainees from the 'Alligator Alcatraz' immigration processing center in Florida represents a grave violation of human rights and due process. I urge you to take immediate action to locate these individuals and ensure their safety. Recent reports from immigrant advocacy groups indicate that numerous detainees have vanished from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) online database. As of late August, approximately 800 detainees were no longer traceable in ICE's system, while another 450 were listed with instructions to call ICE for details. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the treatment and whereabouts of these individuals. The ACLU has described this facility as a 'black hole' where detainees are effectively 'missing.' Families and lawyers are unable to track or communicate with their loved ones and clients, as the ICE locator redirects inquiries to the Florida Department of Corrections. This breakdown in accountability is troubling and must be addressed immediately. It is particularly concerning that many detainees, including plaintiffs in a recent lawsuit filed in August, were reportedly transferred after the case was initiated. This action raises suspicions of retaliation and attempts to obstruct justice. While Governor Ron DeSantis stated that about 100 people had been deported in late July, there is significant confusion over how many detainees have been deported or moved, with some reportedly pressured into agreeing to deportation. I urge you to demand a full and transparent accounting of all detainees who were held at 'Alligator Alcatraz.' The Department of Homeland Security must provide detailed information on the current location and status of each individual, including those who have been transferred or deported. Furthermore, I ask that you push for an immediate investigation into the practices at this facility and ensure that all detainees are afforded their full legal rights, including access to legal counsel and due process. The disappearance of these individuals is not just a matter of administrative oversight; it is a humanitarian crisis that demands swift and decisive action. As my representative, I expect you to hold ICE and the Department of Homeland Security accountable for this egregious lapse in transparency and human rights protection. Please act now to locate these missing detainees and prevent such disappearances from occurring in the future. The government must take responsibility for finding and returning these individuals immediately.
