Enact a Moratorium on New Data Center Development in North Carolina

Block new data center development in North Carolina now. Communities across the state are demanding it — Greensboro, Yadkin County, Alamance County, and Surry County are all considering or have already enacted moratoriums. In Raleigh, a developer just withdrew a project after residents flooded council inboxes and filled every public comment slot within days. The public opposition is real, it's organized, and it's growing. These facilities consume more than 10 megawatts of power each, run around the clock, and strain water supplies that homes and farms in our region depend on. Surry County commissioners voted unanimously for a 24-month pause. Alamance County advocates are asking for the same, specifically to confirm the area has a safe and adequate water supply before any new development is approved. North Carolina should not be greenlighting intensive land uses that communities are actively fighting to stop. A statewide moratorium is the right move.
