An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Censure & expel Mike Lee. Censure Kristi Noem. Stop fomenting violence

Please do not tolerate any incitement of violence by your colleagues. A senator who incites violence, jokes about it, or jokes about or celebrates a political assassination needs to be censured and removed. Standards matter. We are moving to a terrifying world of stochastic violence and domestic terrorism. No elected officials should normalise political violence. Mike Lee's tweet shows colossal bad judgement; at the least, it is an attempt to gin up partisan hatred. Let me quote a news item about it: "Utah Republican Mike Lee has come under fire for labelling the suspected Minnesota 'assassin' as a 'Marxist', while sharing a chilling image of the masked perpetrator. He posted: "This is what happens... When Marxists don't get their way," alongside a photo of alleged killer Vance Boelter, 57, dressed in a white vinyl mask and imitation police uniform knocking on the door of a Minnesota senator." If Lee does not understand why his comment is inappropriate and harmful, then he should be censured, counselled, and removed. I ask you to stop all business in the senate now, and until Lee has been censured & Kristi Noem faced the consequences for enabling an assault on Senator Padilla.
