An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reject unfounded claims linking tragedy to diversity initiatives

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The recent tragedy over the Potomac River was a devastating loss of life that demands a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the causes. However, the claims made regarding diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives being responsible for this accident are unfounded and perpetuate harmful misconceptions. DEI policies aim to create a more inclusive workforce that reflects the diversity of our society, not compromise safety or qualifications. The federal government's efforts to recruit and hire people with disabilities began under the previous administration, with the goal of expanding opportunities for an underrepresented group. This in no way lowered standards or put unqualified individuals in critical roles. Diversity is a core strength of our nation. A workforce that embraces different perspectives, backgrounds and abilities leads to better decision-making, innovation and problem-solving. Attempts to scapegoat these vital initiatives are divisive and misguided. We must resist intolerant rhetoric and instead focus on determining the facts through a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into this tragedy.
