An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Break revolving door between government and private prisons

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The revolving door between government and the private prison industry raises serious ethical concerns and conflicts of interest, as evidenced by the recent disclosure that former acting ICE director Tom Homan earned consulting fees from Geo Group, one of the largest private prison companies operating immigrant detention facilities that stand to profit from aggressive deportation policies. This cozy relationship between those formulating immigration enforcement strategies and companies benefiting financially from mass incarceration prioritizes profits over humane treatment of detainees and due process. Tough new ethics rules and enforcement mechanisms are needed to break this revolving door cycle and restore accountability to an immigration system whose credibility is at stake.
