I am writing as your constituent in Moore County, and I am fed up. I want you to oppose any federal appropriation for the White House ballroom and its associated underground construction, and I want full public disclosure of what this project actually costs.
A federal appeals court has already ruled that this project requires congressional authorization. You hold the power of the purse, and I expect you to use it. Reporting now puts the ballroom alone near 600 million dollars, with roughly half of that falling on taxpayers, while the cost of the six-story underground complex has been hidden entirely behind the label of national security.
The last thing this country needs is a gold ballroom and a gold underground bunker to match the Gold House that Trump already lives in, while our people are hungry and going without health insurance. Let me tell you about one of them. I watched an interview with a sixty-five-year-old blind woman, a severe diabetic, sobbing because after her Social Security check pays her bills, she has sixty-five dollars a month left for food. Under the previous administration she received eighty dollars a month in food assistance. It was cut to twenty-four, and now to just twelve dollars a month. She has lost twenty-eight pounds this year, and her doctor has told her she cannot afford to lose any more. She asked, through tears, what she is supposed to do, because she cannot eat. That is the reality in this country while hundreds of millions are poured into gold rooms underground.
I also want a straight answer to a simple question. Why is a six-story underground bunker necessary at all? What purpose justifies that scale and that expense? The people paying for it deserve an explanation, not a wall of secrecy.
It is unacceptable that this money would be spent, and deliberately concealed, while the federal deficit climbs past two trillion dollars and working families in this district go without food and medicine. National security cannot be a blanket excuse to hide a price tag, or a justification, from the people footing the bill.
Oppose the funding. Demand the disclosure. Get me an answer on why this bunker is necessary. And remember the people you actually work for. I would appreciate a written response.
