I urge you to support the Equal Tax Act, introduced by Ed Markey, and finally make our tax code fair for all.
America should reward hard work—not tax avoidance. Yet today, many multimillionaires pay lower effective tax rates than the teachers, nurses, firefighters, veterans, and small business owners who earn a paycheck. On top of that, the “stepped-up basis” loophole lets wealthy heirs inherit enormous fortunes without ever paying capital gains taxes on decades of investment growth. Working families don’t get special loopholes. Neither should billionaires.
This isn’t fiscally responsible, economically sound, or morally defensible. Every dollar lost to these giveaways increases deficits or shifts the burden onto middle-class taxpayers. It widens the wealth gap, fuels economic inequality, and erodes public trust that everyone is held to the same standard.
Our Constitution was built on the principle that no one is above the law. Our tax system should reflect that same principle: everyone should contribute their fair share. Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to close tax loopholes that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest Americans while working families struggle to afford housing, health care, childcare, and education.
The Equal Tax Act is a common-sense step toward restoring fairness, strengthening our economy, and protecting the long-term fiscal health of our nation.
Stop rewarding wealth over work. Close the loopholes. Pass the Equal Tax Act.
