The GOP effort to blame the current government shutdown on Democrats is not working.
Reporting consistently says that no one from the Trump administration has engaged with Democrats at all to negotiate an end to the shutdown.
Instead the House has been put in eternal vacation mode. Thus evading their duty to the country. And the inevitable vote to release the Epstein files they are avoiding like a Covid vaccine.
The OMB is orchestrating the project 2025 dream of decimating the federal workforce. The shutdown gives an opportunity of a lifetime to this goal. Lives are being shattered but no matter. Governmental operations are being crippled but no matter.
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened to fire air traffic controllers who are calling in sick while working without pay during the government shutdown. And calling them “problem children.”
The disrespect and the disconnect between this administration and we the people is unbelievable.
Meanwhile, in the streets of America…
ICE agents denied Illinois senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth access to the Broadview, IL ICE facility. Congress members have the right to conduct oversight. But not if you’re a Democrat. This was their fourth attempt to access ICE facilities. What are they hiding?
Majority whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) called those who are taking a stand against Trump’s destruction of the nation’s constitutional checks and balances “the terrorist wing” of the Democratic Party, saying it “is set to hold…a hate America rally in [Washington, D.C.] next week.”
Legal scholar David Noll noted that it’s “interesting that if you say the Constitution creates a separation of powers systems in which there are no kings, they think you hate America.”
The WSJ reports that administrative officials joke about ruling Congress with an “iron fist” and that Trump ally Steve Bannon has compared Congress to Russia’s largely ceremonial Duma.
They disrespect the American people. They disrespect you. But why wouldn’t they?
Yet another Republican governor, Phil Scott of Vermont, has come out in opposition to the administration’s deployment of federalized National Guard troops to Chicago and Portland.
“I don’t think our guard should be used against our own people. I don’t think the military should be used against our own people. In fact, it’s unconstitutional,” Scott said. “Unless, of course, there’s an insurrection, much like we saw January 6 a few years ago.”
