Investigate the Epstein files and stop using federal law enforcement as a political weapon against Rep. Ilhan Omar. Three weeks before the midterm election, Homeland Security agents raided her home at 4:30 in the morning, removing boxes of evidence in a criminal investigation whose scope remains publicly unexplained. The Justice Department's own longstanding protocol is to avoid overt investigative actions against candidates within 60 days of an election. This raid violated that norm in the most visible way possible.
Trump called Omar out by name at a Tennessee rally two days before the search, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told a podcaster last month that "something's going to happen" regarding an investigation into her family's immigration paperwork. That is not how independent law enforcement works. That is a political operation. Meanwhile, the public is still waiting for a full accounting of the Epstein files, which implicate powerful people with no election on the line. That is where investigative resources and political courage should be directed.
