Censuring J.D. Vance is a necessary step to hold him accountable for his reckless and harmful rhetoric towards Haitian immigrants in Ohio. As an elected senator, his false claims about Haitian immigrants stealing and eating pets have fueled an environment of fear and danger. This misinformation has provoked multiple bomb threats against schools and government buildings, along with threats of gun violence at Wittenberg University. Legal Haitian immigrants in Springfield and Dayton are simply seeking a better life; they do not deserve to be disparaged by a senator who is supposed to represent all constituents. Vance's actions directly conflict with his official duties. Censuring him sends a clear message that such divisive and unfounded rhetoric that incites threats will not be tolerated from our elected officials. Protecting the safety of all Ohio residents, including immigrant communities, should be the priority.
