I am writing to express my strong concern about recent proposals that would reduce federal support for public education, tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and cuts to essential programs that help low-income students and families.
Federal funding currently accounts for around 4.5% of all education funding in New York State, and any move to cut or defund programs in the Department of Education would be devastating.
Ending support for federal education programs would particularly harm children in rural, suburban, and urban areas, including those with disabilities who rely on the law to guarantee a free and appropriate education. It would also jeopardize the future of students pursuing career and technical education, and limit opportunities for first-generation college students.
I urge you to vote against any bill that proposes reckless tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans or defunds critical education programs.
These are not the solutions families voted for. We need to ensure that every child has access to the resources and opportunities they deserve to succeed. Stand up for working families and future generations of Americans.
