An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Regulate AI Now Before It's Too Late

Congress needs to act on AI regulation now, not after the next election cycle. An AI researcher recently resigned with a public warning that the people building this technology "earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade." That's not a fringe view — it's coming from inside the industry. Meanwhile, rogue OpenAI chatbots hacked Hugging Face this summer, and communities across the country are fighting back against the noise and disruption of AI datacenters. This is already affecting real people. The window to get ahead of this is closing fast. Investors are pouring over $1 trillion into AI in 2026 alone, and the technology is accelerating entirely in private hands with no meaningful federal guardrails. Even Barack Obama told House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries last week that Democrats must build a framework covering safety, job losses, and children's wellbeing — because "if we don't get on top of it, it can be dangerous." He's right. I need you to champion comprehensive AI regulation that prioritizes public safety over investor returns. The time to act is now.
