An open letter to State Legislatures (Fla. only)

Redistricting in Florida

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Earlier this month, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he intends to call for a Special Session of the Florida Legislature to meet in April to redraw our congressional maps. In this announcment, he stated his reasoning for waiting until after the regular session as wanting to wait until after the U.S.. Supreme Court decision about the Voting Rights Act. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits discrimination in voting practices on the basis of race or creed. In 2010, Florida nearly 63% of Florida voters supported amending the state constitution to require that congressional redistricting is not done with the intent to favor or disfavor a political party or incumbent and has no plans to deny racial or language minorities the ability to participate in the political process. Governor DeSantis choosing to call for Special Session after he believes SCOTUS may rule to upend the Voting Rights Act is very clearly an attempt to alllow for redistricting that goes against the votes of Floridians. I urge you to speak out against the Governor’s proposed redistricting plan, and support fair elections in Florida.
