An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

Stop this madness

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The proposal to imprison U.S. citizens in foreign prisons is an alarming violation of constitutional rights and due process. As Americans, we must uphold the foundational principles of our justice system, which guarantee fair trials and humane treatment for all citizens, regardless of the crimes they are accused of. Outsourcing incarceration to other countries erodes these core values and sets a dangerous precedent. Moreover, the suggestion to construct additional prisons specifically for American "criminals" in El Salvador is deeply concerning. It implies a willingness to circumvent domestic legal protections and subject U.S. citizens to potentially inhumane conditions abroad. This disregard for human rights and the rule of law is unacceptable and tarnishes America's standing as a beacon of democracy. I urge you to reject this unconstitutional and unethical proposal outright. Instead, we should focus our efforts on reforming our criminal justice system to address root causes of crime and promote rehabilitation, while upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals. Resorting to extrajudicial tactics and disregarding due process only breed further injustice and undermine the values upon which our nation was founded.
