I’m writing today to urge you to support full disclosure of all Jeffrey Epstein files and to back inherent contempt proceedings against Attorney General Pam Bondi for failing to comply with the December 19 deadline mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
The Justice Department's incomplete release of documents represents a clear violation of legislation that passed with bipartisan support recently. While Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche claims hundreds of lawyers are methodically reviewing documents to redact victim information as required, this explanation does not justify missing a statutory deadline.
The Transparency Act included specific provisions for victim protection while ensuring accountability, and the Justice Department had more than adequate time to prepare for compliance.
I support Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie in their intent to consider inherent contempt charges. As Representative Massie noted, this would be the quickest way to get justice for Epstein's victims. As you know, the unique provision in the Transparency Act allows future administrations to prosecute current Justice Department officials who obstruct compliance demonstrates Congress's intent that these deadlines be taken seriously, unlike congressional subpoenas that expire at the end of each session.
Epstein's victims deserve full transparency about the scope of his criminal network and any failures by federal authorities to stop him.
The American public also deserves to know whether powerful individuals received preferential treatment or protection. Allowing the Justice Department to selectively release documents on its own timeline undermines the rule of law and sets a dangerous precedent for executive branch defiance of congressional mandates.
I urge you to publicly support inherent contempt proceedings against Attorney General Bondi and to use every available mechanism, including appropriations provisions, to force complete compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Half measures and incomplete disclosures are unacceptable when justice for victims is at stake. Thank you.
