Halt US Colonialism in Guam and Stop Camp Blaz Construction

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to halt the construction of Camp Blaz in Guam and to stand in solidarity with the Chamorro people in their fight for self-determination and land protection. The U.S. military’s continued expansion on Guam is a blatant act of colonial occupation that further erodes Chamorro rights and devastates the island’s fragile ecosystem.
The construction of Camp Blaz will destroy 1,000 acres of land, including irreplaceable limestone forests that serve as a critical carbon sink and require hundreds of thousands of years to develop naturally. It will also restrict public access to the Ritidian Point Wildlife Refuge, an essential ecological and cultural site. The military’s plans to invest billions more in missile defense systems and build a shooting range over a wildlife refuge are further acts of environmental and human rights violations.
The United Nations has repeatedly raised concerns about Guam’s colonial status and the U.S.’s refusal to recognize the Chamorro people’s right to self-determination. Expanding the military footprint on Guam only deepens this injustice and threatens the very survival of its Indigenous people.
I urge you to take a firm stance against this destruction and advocate for an immediate halt to the base’s construction. The Chamorro people deserve the right to determine their own future, free from military expansion and environmental devastation. Your leadership is critical in ensuring the protection of their land, rights, and cultural heritage.
I look forward to your response on what actions you will take to address this urgent issue.
