Stop Forcing Taxpayers to Subsidize Low-Wage Employers
5 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!
I am writing to express my frustration with companies that pay their employees' wages below the poverty level for their area and then rely on government programs—funded by taxpayer dollars—to make up the difference. This is an unacceptable burden on the public, and it allows profitable businesses to exploit workers while shifting their financial responsibility onto taxpayers.
When companies do not pay wages that allow employees to afford basic necessities—like food, housing, and healthcare—those employees often must turn to public assistance programs to survive. These programs exist to help people in need, not to subsidize businesses that refuse to pay their workers fairly. If a business cannot afford to pay its employees above the poverty level, then it is not a sustainable business model—it is corporate welfare at the public’s expense.
This needs to stop. I urge you to support policies that:
Require companies with large workforces to pay employees wages that are at least above the poverty level for their region.
Prevent taxpayer dollars from subsidizing businesses that refuse to pay fair wages.
Ensure that corporations benefiting from public resources are also contributing to economic stability by paying workers enough to live without government aid.
The public should not be forced to make up the difference when companies refuse to take care of their own employees. We must put an end to this hidden corporate welfare and hold businesses accountable.
I urge you to take immediate action on this issue.
