Oppose Lee Zeldin for U.S. Attorney General I am a voting constituent strongly opposed to the potential nomination of Lee Zeldin to serve as the Attorney General of the United States. Following the recent dismissal of Pam Bondi, reports indicate that Mr. Zeldin is the leading candidate to head the Department of Justice. As a constituent, I urge you to reject this appointment should it reach the floor, as Mr. Zeldin’s record on election integrity and environmental protection demonstrates a profound disregard for the rule of law and the public interest. The role of Attorney General requires an individual with an unwavering commitment to the Constitution and the democratic process. Mr. Zeldin, however, has consistently undermined these foundations. On January 6, 2021, he was among the members of Congress who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona and Pennsylvania, despite dozens of court rulings and audits confirming the election’s fairness. Furthermore, his 2022 gubernatorial campaign was embroiled in a criminal investigation involving thousands of fraudulent, photocopied signatures on his Independence Party petitions. Appointing an "election denier" with a history of challenging democratic outcomes to lead the nation's top law enforcement agency is a direct threat to the stability of our republic. Equally concerning is Mr. Zeldin’s record as the current Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). During his tenure, he has overseen what he calls the “largest act of deregulation in U.S. history.” By eliminating the 2009 Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding—the legal bedrock for regulating harmful emissions—he has effectively dismantled the government’s ability to combat climate change. His actions have prioritized energy dominance and the interests of corporate polluters over the health and safety of American citizens. A candidate who views vital environmental protections as part of a "climate change religion" lacks the objective judgment necessary to enforce the broad array of federal statutes under the Department of Justice’s jurisdiction. The U.S. Attorney General must be an independent arbiter of justice, not a political operative focused on dismantling regulations and undermining elections.
