I strongly urge you to support Senator Tim Kaine’s resolution to restrict unauthorized military engagement with Iran. Amid escalating violence between Israel and Iran, this resolution is a critical check on presidential war powers and a necessary step to prevent yet another disastrous, endless U.S. conflict in the Middle East.
The resolution reinforces the War Powers Resolution of 1973 by requiring explicit congressional approval before the U.S. military can engage in hostilities against Iran—except in cases of imminent self-defense. This is not only constitutionally appropriate but strategically prudent. The American people do not want to be dragged into another undeclared war that serves neither our interests nor our values .
As lawmakers like Senator Lindsey Graham call to “go all in” and escalate militarily alongside Israel, Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority. War must never be the result of unilateral executive action, particularly when it carries the risk of massive regional destabilization and American casualties .
Please support Senator Kaine’s resolution and ensure that the American people—and their elected representatives—have a voice in decisions of war and peace. We need de-escalation and diplomacy, not unchecked militarism.
