I write to you as a concerned constituent to urge you to take immediate and serious action in light of recent revelations showing that President Trump has again engaged in conduct that amounts to impeachable behavior under the Constitution. I respectfully ask that you speak out, open hearings, investigate thoroughly, and be fully prepared to initiate impeachment proceedings as warranted. Democracy is at stake.
Address The President’s Misuse Of Justice
Recent reporting shows that the President has pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute political opponents - former FBI Director James Comey, Senator Adam Schiff, and New York Attorney General Letitia James - despite insufficient evidence. On social media, he has openly ordered the Attorney General to pursue these cases, declaring that “justice must be served” and accusing prosecutors of “killing our credibility” when they refuse. He removed U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert in Virginia after Siebert declined to bring charges and replaced him with Lindsey Halligan, his former personal attorney, who is seen as more willing to advance political prosecutions. These are not neutral calls for justice, but demands for targeting of political opponents.
Confront The President’s Unprecedented Actions
Never before in modern American history has a sitting president so repeatedly used public platforms to direct the Attorney General to bring prosecutions against named political adversaries. Presidents may disagree with opponents, but they have not sought to weaponize federal prosecutors as tools of political punishment. Even in past scandals, presidents affirmed DOJ independence. By contrast, President Trump has discarded this tradition, replacing career prosecutors with personal loyalists and demanding convictions regardless of evidence. Such conduct represents a sharp break with constitutional norms and poses an extraordinary danger to the integrity of our nation.
Investigate And Hold Congressional Hearings
Congress must act immediately. I urge you to:
1. Speak out publicly to defend prosecutorial independence.
2. Hold Judiciary and Oversight hearings with DOJ officials, legal experts, and whistleblowers.
3. Demand disclosure of all communications between the White House and DOJ regarding these prosecutions.
4. Be fully prepared to introduce articles of impeachment and conduct impeachment proceedings.
Protect The Rule Of Law Without Delay
Unchecked, this conduct will erode trust in the impartiality of our justice system and normalize political retaliation. The independence of federal prosecutors cannot survive if their decisions are dictated by presidential loyalty tests. History will judge this moment as one in which Congress either defended the rule of law or allowed it to be trampled.
