There’s an obvious escalation in ICE actions. Actions that now include masked agents detaining people anywhere at anytime and not being required to supply any information about much of anything.
Which leads to an obvious conclusion. What is to stop the vigilante segment of our society to begin snatching anyone off the streets that they don’t like the look of, or have a personal problem with, and doing who knows what with them? And how would we ever even know that these actions even occurred?
Because that’s exactly what is happening now under the guise of protecting the agents doing the detaining. People are being basically kidnapped. Their families don’t have to be informed. Their families aren’t entitled to know where they are. People simply disappear. And there is no requirement by the government to tell anyone anything. Because it would violate national security.
What do you call a country that uses such power against the people?
Can we, should we, take ICE’s representations about the need for its officers to obscure their identities at face value? When the organization does not provide evidence for its claims?
It has been eager to level dubious charges against Democratic legislators. And conflates assaults of officers engaged in official acts with putative threats to them personally.
Should ICE be granted the benefit of the doubt just because they say so?
Without solid proof of an escalation of violence against ICE officers, we must assume officers are covering their faces to avoid accountability.
Or they are a self-fulfilling prophecy of more violence being created because they are anonymously snatching people who don’t have a clue who they are being detained by. Who among us wouldn’t resist under such a scenario?
It’s sanctified kidnapping. By masked men. Who don’t have to explain a thing to anybody.
Do you think this is justified behavior? Are you okay with this type of police state in our democracy?
History shows where this leads.
