Methane is a potent greenhouse gas responsible for over 25% of global warming, and the oil and gas industry is the largest industrial source of methane emissions in the United States. Allowing companies to continue releasing excessive methane without any financial disincentive undermines efforts to mitigate climate impacts and protect vulnerable communities from increased air pollution.
