Since Obama, and maybe before, the Republican strategy has been a scorched Earth, take no prisoners approach. They have been my way or the highway and despite their irate and offended attitudes when they don't get their way with democratic priorities and legislation, they seem intent on not allowing any kind of bipartisanship when it comes to what is in the best interest of the country. It is with a great sadness in my heart that I seem to have to admit that the age of bipartisanship is gone. Great statesman like Richard Luger, John McCain and tip O'Neill seem to no longer be in the Congress. I believe it is now time to do away with the filibuster. A super majority of our legislating body requires our senators to actually be willing to compromise, even when it might not be totally popular with the party base. Since that no longer seems to be the case, at least when the Republicans are
in the minority, it seems time to do away with the super majority rule, ie the filibuster. We have to be able to legislate. And in the absence of a loyal opposition, we have to be able to move forward. I know this may come back to haunt us, especially with the many efforts at voter suppression going on in formerly Republican strongholds, but even to protect voter rights themselves, we have to be able to legislate. Please support or sponsor legislation to stop the filibuster.
