As a constituent, I’m writing to urge you to support the Universal Periodic Review by the United Nations. This review provides an important opportunity to scrutinize human rights practices in the United States.
As the review process approaches, I urge you to advocate for comprehensive reforms to address systemic inequalities and civil rights violations that persist in our nation. The United States has an obligation under international human rights treaties to guarantee equal protection and non-discrimination.
Under this administration, marginalized communities continue to face entrenched disparities in areas like criminal justice, voting rights, economic opportunity, and access to healthcare and education. Racial profiling, excessive use of force, and mass incarceration perpetuate the criminalization of people of color.
Suppressive voting laws disproportionately disenfranchise Black, Latino, Native American, and other minority voters. Structural barriers impede equitable access to quality jobs, housing, and public services for disadvantaged groups.
Concrete actions are needed to dismantle systemic racism, advance racial equity, and uphold human rights for all. The Universal Periodic Review should call for proactive measures to combat discrimination, promote police accountability and justice reform, expand voting rights protections, address disparities in health and economic outcomes, and bolster civil rights enforcement.
Comprehensive policy changes grounded in human rights principles are vital to building a more just and inclusive society. This review represents a crucial opportunity to shine a light on persisting civil rights deficits in the United States and set the nation on a better path forward.
I encourage you to use your office to vigorously advocate for transformative reforms through this process. Thank you for your consideration.
