Defend Our Free Press The Trump administration’s decision to subpoena New York Times journalists following their investigative reporting on the new Air Force One is an assault on the First Amendment. Sending federal agents to the doorsteps of reporters to compel grand jury testimony weaponizes law enforcement to intimidate the press and conceal public-interest information regarding executive security. A free society cannot function when independent scrutiny of public infrastructure, foreign gifts, and taxpayer funding is met with government coercion. This aggressive overreach is an unacceprable threat to the transparency vital to our free press. I urge you to exercise your oversight authority to demand accountability from the Department of Justice, publicly condemn these subpoenas, and champion robust federal shield legislation. Journalists must be protected from government retaliation to ensure truth remains accessible to all Americans.
