Oppose Justin Olson's Nomination to Indiana District Court

I am writing to urge you to vote against confirming Justin Olson for a district court judgeship in Indiana. His record demonstrates a troubling pattern of bias that disqualifies him from serving as a federal judge who must impartially apply the law to all Americans.
During his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Olson confirmed making deeply concerning statements that reveal prejudice against multiple groups. In an August 2015 sermon, he suggested that marriage was not intended for "our handicapped friends or our persons with physical disabilities that might prevent the robust marriage that we're called to." When questioned, he acknowledged making this statement. His attempt to clarify by referencing biblical concepts of "eunuchs by birth" only reinforced concerns about his views on who deserves equal treatment under the law.
Senator John Kennedy also questioned Olson about a 2022 sermon in which he characterized "transgenderism, homosexuality, fornication, and all sorts of sexual perversions" as forms of hypocrisy stemming from "shame on the inside." Olson acknowledged the language "sounds familiar" and stated these remarks were for "the edification" of his congregation. This is particularly alarming given his legal practice specializing in Title IX cases aimed at barring transgender athletes from college sports.
Federal judges hold lifetime appointments and must demonstrate the ability to treat all litigants fairly regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status. Olson's documented statements reveal biases that would undermine public confidence in the judiciary. His assurances that he would set aside personal beliefs are insufficient given the explicit nature of his past remarks about disabled people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and sexuality.
The people of Indiana and all Americans who appear before federal courts deserve judges who respect the dignity and equal rights of every person. I urge you to vote no on Justin Olson's confirmation.
