Withhold DHS Funding Until Civil Rights Reforms Are Implemented

16 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I’m writing on a topic of utmost urgency, and to implore you to support withholding Department of Homeland Security funding until comprehensive civil rights reforms are implemented. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to stop violations of civil and constitutional rights, and the current operations of DHS agencies demand immediate intervention. The actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection have escalated to a crisis point. Federal agents have killed human beings in American cities, including recent incidents in Minneapolis. Roving bands of masked federal agents have terrorized communities through racial profiling, targeting people based on skin color, and intimidating observers documenting their activities. This represents unchecked executive overreach that has continued for months without adequate Congressional oversight. The violations extend beyond immigration enforcement. Federal agents have interfered with state and local leaders' ability to protect their residents and have been deployed to interfere with state and local election administration. The Department of Justice has been weaponized to try to seize voter data for voter suppression purposes. These actions undermine the fundamental democratic processes that define our nation. All communities deserve civil and human rights protection. I am asking you to immediately exercise Congressional power to stop DHS funding until accountability measures are in place and civil rights-based reforms are implemented. This also means demanding answers about the killings by federal agents, establishing oversight mechanisms to prevent racial profiling, protecting the right to document law enforcement activities, and ensuring federal agencies cannot interfere with state and local governance or election administration. The choice before all members of Congress is clear: continue funding agencies that violate constitutional rights, or demand accountability and choose justice. I urge you to stand with your constituents and support withholding DHS funding until these critical reforms are secured. Thank you.
