An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Ethical concerns over militarization of public spaces

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The upcoming military parade in Washington D.C. raises valid concerns about potential damage to city infrastructure like roads. While the Army has stated it will cover costs for any road repairs needed after the event, this does not address broader issues around the purpose and appropriateness of such a display. As citizens, we should critically examine whether showcasing military might through tanks and weaponry rolling down public streets aligns with democratic values and responsible use of taxpayer funds. Instead of reinforcing authoritarianism, our resources could be better directed towards constructive purposes that truly serve the public good. I urge you to thoughtfully consider these implications and advocate for transparency and accountability in any events involving militarization of civilian spaces.
