Oppose HR 28

L I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 28, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which was recently passed by the House of Representatives. This legislation seeks to amend Title IX to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women's sports programs. This bill is discriminatory and targets transgender individuals, particularly transgender women and girls, by denying them the opportunity to participate in sports consistent with their gender identity. Such exclusion not only undermines the principles of equality and inclusivity that Title IX was designed to protect but also contributes to the stigmatization and marginalization of transgender youth. Furthermore, during the floor debate on H.R. 28, concerns were raised that the bill could lead to invasive practices, such as unnecessary and inappropriate inspections, under the guise of verifying an athlete's gender. This not only infringes upon personal privacy but also creates an environment of fear and mistrust among young athletes. As Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez highlighted, advocating for the rights of transgender individuals is not only a matter of justice but also a reflection of our society's commitment to protecting all individuals from discrimination. Embracing inclusivity in sports can foster unity and understanding among diverse communities. In light of these concerns, I urge you to reconsider the implications of H.R. 28 and to oppose any measures that seek to discriminate against transgender individuals. Let us work together to promote policies that uphold the dignity and rights of all people, regardless of their gender identity.
