I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent regarding Senate Bill 153 that plans to unjustly attack our North Carolina immigrant communities. This bill would tear families apart, destabilize our neighborhoods, and creating a culture of fear that goes against North Carolina's values to protect its' residents. As you know, this bill would primarily force state law enforcement to work with ICE and to allow residents to sue local governments for protecting North Carolina's immigrant communities.
Despite these alarming facts, we have yet to see a broad public condemnation of SB153 from the North Carolina Senate. Our undocumented community greatly contributes to this state's economy, culture, and overall well-being, and yet they are being left to suffer in silence without reassurance from our elected officials.
We demand that the North Carolina State Senate overwhelmingly votes no to Senate Bill 153. North Carolina must not be complicit in the harm inflicted on our undocumented community. We urge you to take action now and stand with the families who are living in fear. Silence is not an option. We expect our elected leaders to speak up and take meaningful steps to ensure that all North Carolina residents—regardless of immigration status—feel safe and supported in their own state. We look forward to your swift response and leadership on this urgent matter.
